This is a really interesting thread! I've been thinking recently about burrows. Not one of my terrestrial T's at this point is burrowing. I was getting ready to make a switch in substrate anyway, so I'm glad to hear what is working for everyone. I'm anxiously awaiting a warm turn in the weather to allow shipping of my first long anticipated pet hole, so this was a great time to catch this thread. I'll report back with some comparisons after the substrate change.

I'm loving the burrow pics. Here is a pic of one of my E. pachypus' burrows (mostly topsoil). I love that they are mostly vertical, which allows me to spy on them. The enclosure is the same as yours as well, just1moreT. Love those stackable Sterilite containers.

Nice one man they like to keep those holes nice and tight and straight down like you say yeah those are good containers getting kinda hard find around here going today see if wally world got some more in I wish they where a little clearer though

I love watching them blast out of the holes when after prey. It's quite an impressive display.

My Missus just came back from Walmart with two more 7.2 quart ones. We have like five around here, so one always has the size I need. Yup...I wish they were clearer as well.

Might just have to buy some more specimens in the future and go from there. I am in the process of looking, but like you said, difficult...

This was another good burrow made by a E murinus some reason he died no death curl or signs of cause of death, few months later I put this 1-1/4 Ceratogyrus marshalli in there he's got a mansion now ,just reworked the front door to better fit him I'm sure this is common accourance in the wild

Those all look like some nice n happy T's with some fine condos . I notice you use some of the food containers with the white plastic lids also.I like them to,they hold just about any age of spider and there good and clear

Augacephalus ezendami

This one has made a pretty neat burrow. its straight down and she has built the walls up above the ground pretty high,in case it floods,I think she would still be going down if hadn't hit bottom lol.I used clay base dirt and added pebbles to the mix as can see in pic . photo dont show it near as good as it is in person .

Good, naturalistic tanks with happy T's. Minus the annoyed lividum :D How dare you lure it out, right? :)

I tend to not care what my tanks look like, as long as the T is happy. Lots of people overthink "decorations" when housing them. Great to see there's people having the spider in mind 1st.

I finally got my pet holes and I'm loving them! I've got them on topsoil as a substrate with a little sphagnum moss added for moisture retention for the more humid of them. Most have incorporated the moss into their burrows, using it for anchor points for webbing at the opening or to plug the burrow when they want to be left alone. The more arid species of the bunch (A. ezendami and C. marshalli) are on dry topsoil with a single strand of damp moss for drinking as they're only 1/2". I figure I'll change them over to water bowls after they molt once. I'm glad that I listened to the advice around here and used topsoil for the substrate as they seem to be loving it. I'll try to get some pictures to share soon.

My B. Vagans has started a good burrow, tunneling a fair way back. God knows what she's done whilst I've been at work. shall have to get some shots later.

And still going. Can probably get a rough idea of how deep she's going from that last one but yeah. I'd say she's making herself a very nice burrow.

Here's the burrow belonging to my 1/2" C. marshalli. I think it's a pretty good start. C. marshalli.jpg

Don't let their substrate dry out.
replacing the lids with no holes and having ventilation on the sides has worked, thanks. I check up on them as well every few days just to see how they're fairing out. But sub is damp don't have excessive ventilation. I appreciate it I hear more and more how sensitive these species are.
