I am finally getting around to buying some more Ts. I have already decided I want an A. versicolor for my collection, and now am debating an A. geroldi. I am wondering what A. geroldi looks like as an adult. Are they actually as obviously blue as some pictures make them out to be? Or is the blue more subdued? Since my collection is small and i am limited to space, i don't want something that looks very similar to the A. avic I already have. I want a drastic difference when you look at all three ( versi, avic, and geroldi).

Does anyone have pictures of their adults they can share? I have had difficulty finding pictures on the board that are identified as A. geroldi, and I don't trust random websites.

Thanks guys!

P.S. what adult sizes can I expect out of:
A versi
A geroldi
A purpurea

IMO if you want something that looks drastically different from A. Avicularia, A . geroldi is not the one to get. It looks very similar just with out the red hairs. The blue color in pics is mostly from the flash, in real life they are not as flashy. If you want another Avic that looks different from the other 2 , I would look into A. minatrix or A. laeta.

Later, Tom

Thanks Tom. That is the kind of honest response I was looking for! A. laeta is available to me right now, but the A. minatrix is not unfortunently.

Also wondering what the difference is between the Peru purple and A. purpurea?

A. diverspes is another option I have....once again I have seen some amazing coloured pictures, and some that are ho-hum.

Thoughts?

Imo the A. purpurea is a much deeper purple. Also I recommend the A. purpurea. I am quite partial though...

Currently I have:

0.0.3 A. versicolor
0.0.3 A. purpurea
0.0.1 A. metallica

Many differences between"peru purple"and purpurea, but that's one for the search engine. Personally I would avoid the geroldi,it is too damn close to A.avicularia IMHO,and will probably vanish once this revision comes out.Just not worth the price. Stick to the 5 distinctive Avicularia and you will be set(purpurea, minatrix, laeta, versicolor, diverspes)

Definitely brighter from the flash. I've never seen one that bright in normal room lighting.

I think they look way more blue than a regular A. avic due to no red hairs. I have a juvie female A. geroldi and she is all blue hair.

You're getting an order from tarantula Canada aren't you ;)

Mine comes tomorrow :D
A geroldi
A purpurea
A diversipes

And I threw in a g pulchra

IMO, the geroldi is gorgeous as are the diversipes. Amanda said they stay blue as adults. And the purpurea is a deeper more richer purple than the Peru purple.

This is what I have decided on:
A. versicolor
H. lividum
L. parahybana

....and maybe a GGB...and maybe an A. geroldi....argh, so hard to decide...If only I had unlimited space, money, and a fiance who didnt go into convulsions when looking at Ts...

Mine are sitting here beside me at work and im DYYYYYYING to open them, but everyone here would go ballistic....so Im sitting trying patiently to wait till 6 LOL!

Get the geroldi!! I will post some pics of them tonight :) I like the allover blue, but I LOVE purple anything so the purpurea is sitting at a close second lol. I also have a versi and those are just gorgeous as well, she is my favorite so far out of all of them...even when she shoots poo all over her exo. :p

Oh and dont tell the fiance, just sneak em in ;) I'm hoping mine wont notice either, but he looks for new ones now after he caught on lol..Thankfully he doesnt care much.

Haha last time I did an order my coworker thought I was insane when I asked her nicely to accept my box of tarantulas should the order come while I was out of the office.

Do post pictures!

Hey there,

Saw a thread on Avic's and couldn't help myself. It was pretty much all I liked to collect, although I did have other species. They were definitely my favorite. Here is some from my collection that may help you decide what you're looking for. These are all pictures I took of my T's personally (except the very last one). You can see how much of a difference the lighting really does. Keep that in mind when looking at pictures of any T!

Cheers.

A. sp Peru Purple (1/3)

A. sp. Peru Purple (2/3)

A. sp. Peru Purple (3/3)

MF A. Versicolor (1/3)

MF A. Veriscolor (2/4)

MF A. Versicolor (3/4)

MF. A Versicolor (4/4)

Sub-adult A. Versicolor (1/1)

Sling A. Purpurea (1/1)

Not sure of the species of the last one but it has absolutely amazing colors!

Let me know if you have any questions on Avic's I would be more than happy to attempt to answer them.
