Pterinochilus murinus “Usambara” is known as "OBT", which means "orange baboon tarantula". So my asinine questions are:

Why individuals are labeling their Pterinochilus murinus “DCF, TCF/Classic aka Mombasa Golden Starburst” an “OBT”?

What’s “orange” about “DCF, TCF/Classic aka Mombasa Golden Starburst” that is listed as an “OBT”? 🤣

Why does “RCF” cost more than an “Usambara”?.

What’s red about “RCF” compare to “Usambara”?

I’ve had both “RCF” & “Usambara” I see nothing different in color about them. The prices differential is quite hilarious 😂.

Every time I get into deep thinking on this subject I get a headache

OBT common names are a wreck, but from my understanding I thought color forms were due to the region/localities where they're located. I'm not too sure, but I don't like the idea of using so many color forms and so many acronyms to the OBT.

That's the reason I don't have one yet. I want an OBT that's actually orange and I just don't know what to trust to get the color I want. I'd be real mad if I got a sling that turned out to be the tan color.

I hear you on that! I decided to get one a few weeks back and ordered one the specified RCF. If it doesn‘t turn out Flammin Hot Cheetos orange I‘m going to be bummed.

My impression was the RCF had a deeper or more pronounced red color on the femur compared to the Usambara, and that being the primary difference. Maybe I was dreaming, but thought I had run across that when I was trying to figure it out.

I assume mine was OCF (ORIGINAL COLOR FORM) and not RCF, but yes, IMO OBT should only be used for OCF and RCF, the other's should follow P Murinus and Color form. That being said I dig the Golden Starburst Version and have no idea what color form that is

The golden yellow form murinus named “Mombasa Golden Starburst” was originally named. There was no need for any other additional color form names like Classic, or TCF.

Are Mombasa and Usambara true locale specific forms?
Are they being kept and bred as such?

So if you want the Mombasa Golden Starburst" seek by that name. Thx. Was "TCF" True Color Form?
Yes, this genus makes ones head swirl
So
Mombasa Golden Starburst Region?
OBT "Original (Orange) or Classic" Usambara Mtns
OBT " RCF" ? (Hobby Bred, region Unknown?)
P Murinus "DCF" Dark Zimbabwe / Botswana
P Murinus "BCF" Brown Mozambique

can anyone clear up?

That’s one of the names. Regardless though not all P. murinus are “orange” 😉.
I always preferred PTerror

Usumbara is the standard range for the traditional OBT, is the RCF from there as well?
Is it just a more red morph of the OCF?

yeah, but we don't have to use them...at all...ever. :)

Correct, and this is how any of them should be labeled.

The one I posted above is labeled Zimbabwe/Botswana.

lol, the ones that aren't orange are very uncommon here in the states (the orange ones are some of the most common ts in the hobby), and they're not priced in the same league as a result....All the general ones you find all over the place are gonna be orange. You are highly unlikely to ever accidentally purchase one that's not orange.
