I know the tegu wasn't really obese, just pickin on the fact that they're funny lookin critters with the fat in their cheeks. And I actually thought of that price on the 15, 000 dollar ball python after I posted it. I was amazed to see some of the 5,000 dollar snakes with sold signs of them.

95% of the time, they're bought by other breeders... very, very few recreational hobbyists have that kind of cash for a single snake, but as a breeder, it's pretty easy to justify $5K for a breedable female when you're going to make it back threefold on your first clutch of babies. :) I told my wife about the $20K Genetic Stripe retic babies, and she said, "If you could make that kind of money breeding snakes, I give you the entire basement!"

Heh, the price of herps in general amazes me. I've seen Ball Pythons with price tags of $45,000.

I saw pure white nile? (Maybe it was a water, but I'm pretty sure it was a nile) monitor in the Kingsnake.com classifieds for $125,000. They CLAIMED it was normally listed at 1 million (I have my doubts) and that it was the only one of it's kind (I have more doubts)
