Entropy is a cruel mistress, and life is just an entropy engine.
In order to have success with such a project, you would need to have an efficient way of generating the desired flourishes of life from the mass-energy conversion as the materials sealed inside are slowly expended, and/or to capture energy from an external source, like the sun.
