I agree, I always see people put skulls in T enclosures and I don’t understand why, I’d rather put a Makka Pakka figiure or a spongebob figiure if I was putting an ornament in.
I don’t see the appeal in putting graves, skulls etc in T enclosures. I think they do it to “look tough”, because Ts...
...to be a 3.5 to 4 inch T in a 10 gallon. Has a skull, ceramic pumpkins with some grave stones. Not to mention an incredibly long distance from sub to the top, death trap.
I don't know had to vent.
Oh yeah can't forget the M. balfouri communal with only two of them and two skulls, unbelievable.
...by a scientist. You'll see some obvious poisoning mentioned...flea treatment, pesticides...there is a video that does look like DKS but in a communal, how does only one T get exposed, and again, dry husbandry...but these erratic movements are more indicative of it not being a husbandry issue...
...I ask how long does it take on average for their numbers to decrease to 15 individuals ?
Also can I ask can the spiderlings molt in the "communal enclousure" (the eggsack enclousure) or not ?
Also Update :
I've separated the eggsacks of my Steatoda triangulosa from the mother yesterday, it...
Has she webbed herself in? What is her enclosure like?
These are easy to breed. Its more about your after care.
How old was female? How fat was she?
You can still provide food for female. But if she os full, and fetile, they tend to eat less.
If your prekilled is making its way then its...
That's how bought my balfouri. I was happy to get a good deal on a communal. I saved a bunch of money then ended spending even more on tanks for each one of them. Apparently math isn't my skill set. And luckily it's not the wife's either, I now a bunch of balfouri enclosures haha.
...insertion. Subsequent attempts you run the risk of someone getting eaten. It isn't always the male to be sacrificed...
You aren't doing a communal are you?
Did you see the male make a fresh sperm web before pairing? Was she refusing food before you paired?
Considering these guys breed...
4' = 4 feet?
It's more like half this size.
I don't know. The breeder had multible eggsacs in his communal.
I managed to catch every male befor e could mate with a female. But the last one was stobern. Never wanderet and as soon as i opend the enclosure o catch him, he was gone.
I will. My...
So you have 3 AFs and one male, plus slings/juveniles now. In what appears to be a 4' wide x 3' deep x 2' (+/-) high enclosure.
That seems adequate space for 3 adults Females , and a breeder male (lucky him) So you line bred them? Sibling to sibling?
Keep me posted on what happens with all the...
...flick the youngsters away, wich looks really hillarious. But i never saw any sign of aggression.
What i think, is important for a balfouri communal enclosure is: enough hiding space. And they love to dig. So provide them with alot of digging space.
Remember my picture from the enclosure...
...dirt (so do not bother with using real plants in the enclosure, as they will just kill the plants with web).
Supposedly H. villosella is communal, but even as siblings they started to threat pose instantly so I keep them seperate.
When rehousing them into larger enclosures, I've found the...
Not a search for communal, search balfouri and 90% of the ones against it have never kept one. So they can’t speak first hand, they can only assume due to other species. Balfouri are different. Even a search here will result more success than fails. Don’t speak for everyone, I have had 2...
Imagine you have 100 slings. Imagine how much easier it is to move them all if you are selling 10 at a time, or 5.....
because they are cheap overseas you see folks across the pond doing communals of P. mets. Hardly anyone in America would risk what are very expensive here to experiment
Ahhh, yeah I remember seeing on a few dealer sites marketing the communal deals. I guess all to make a buck.
Seems lately a lot of new post popping up on communals by new keepers. It's sad because everyone else knows there is a high probability of tarantulas dying.
...media sites and because dealers can turn a $50 sale into a $250 sale.
none of us are trying to prove we are right. Just do a search for communal here and go through all the threads. Everyone here is simply stating what they have seen repeatedly over the last decade.
We understand why people...
until you throw a bunch of roaches into a communal set up and see 12+ little monsters come out of nowhere to feed you won't understand why we keep communals. it's possibly one of the coolest things I have ever seen in this hobby. a lot of you are spending a whole lot of time and words trying to...
