My wonderful jungle carpet python. Spends most of its (unsure if male or female) time coiled up on its perch during the day and hunting from its perch at night. Amazing species of snake to keep! Excited to receive its permanent home (4x2x2 PVC enclosure) soon.
Brings back memories, I bred these in my early 20s and this one looks just like my old male, I vowed never to keep reptiles again but after seeing your pic I miss them
Absolutely love these to bits and wanted one for ages, but apparently the high yellows often get health problems due to how they are selectively bred or something. Kinda sad, but still beautiful
@RezonantVoid Interesting, I had not heard that... really unfortunate. Luckily I don't think mine would be considered "high yellow"... already about 20 months old; most high yellows are really much more highlighter like at this point. Fingers crossed!
@RezonantVoid Actually, now that I think of it, I have heard of potential problems with the jungle/jaguar types. Jaguar being a gene that come from coastal carpet pythons (a different subspecies of Morelia spilota) with known neurotic issues, akin to spider ball pythons. These jungle/jags are often very high yellow. Luckily this one is "pure jungle", although most bloodlines in captivity in North America have potentially been mixed at some point in time.
@RezonantVoid they tend to be susceptible to neurological disorders like "stargazing" (this is sad)and is another where they refuse to eat and waste away, the USA and UK has been breeding Aus species longer and more than what Australia has. @Drizzliz your spot on, that jungle has very clean genes and is a mirror image of what I was breeding. @MrGhostMantis I bred them for years and loved it but it hit me like a freight train one day that I just didn't want to see reptiles in captivity anymore and it ate away at me until I sold and gave them away, can't explain it properly here as to why.
I live rural and spend my free time in the wilderness somewhere so I still see, catch, cuddle, handle plenty of reptiles lol this suits me much better. I don't hold any grudge against anyone else owning them either
