Mature Male Ummidia [1/2]

My first local mygalomorph find crawled up the stairs and onto the threshold of the front door. After taking some photos, I released him in what I hope is a promising area for finding a mate.
If not for the long legs, id almost think this was a relative of Actinopodidae due to the pale abdominal marking

Most pictures I've seen don't have that marking; I saw it on one dead specimen, making me wonder if it's an artifact of old age.

Fortunately, this genus has a saddle-like depression on tibia III that is diagnostic. Also, we have few other mygalomorphs here in South Carolina. (All native tarantulas are west of the Mississippi River.)

I hope he found a female before the cold weather set in two weeks later.

One day I hope to find a female, but since they're trapdoors, that may be wishful thinking.
Not necessarily, they are MUCH more common than most people think due to their camouflage. Ive been finding them in the hundreds at places i never noticed them for years now that i have a more trained eye. As soon as you see 1 trapdoor burrow, its easy to apot the rest
