No, that's definitely a female. Look closely. The spermathecae and the flap are dark and wet and blend in with the rest of the molt but they are definitely there. (I'm 100% on this, no guessing. This is a female.)
The spermathacae can be subtle at this size. If you backlight the molt and focus on the area between the first pair of book lungs, you may be able to see more detail.
@boina I already destroyed the molt. You are right, when I took the pics the molts were soaking wet. Later I read about how they need to be somewhat albiet dry as shadows and contrasts are what we should be looking for. The molt is not from a very large pulchra, at 2 3/4 inch.
@efmp1987 I just read your thread - this is still a female. If this one turns out male any point in her life then everything I know about sexing (and I've been doing it for years) is wrong.
@KezyGLA Thanks for looking. It's not only the spermathecae, it's the wide furrow and the general shape of the area and the lack of a lighter colored area where the epiandrous fusillae in a male should be. Everything screams female to me.
