Caribena Versicolor Sling

First time I’ve seen my Caribena Versicolor drink from its new bowl 😩 so cutteeee
This is an important photo. I own quite a few versi over time. As slings at that size most will think they their T is hydrated when they are plump like yours. Generally they seem to do fine, however the above clearly shows an animal in need of water, but to the eye, we'd never think that.

And it shows that they will indeed drink from a water dish, not just from water sprayed on the webbing.

True, but that's never been a question, we've known that. What isn't known is why sometimes they do, and at times they stop dish drinking - which if you are away or not paying attention leads to death. I've observed this many times- NOT the death part. Some will not drink from a dish at all, but go webbing/sides of containers etc even though there's a bowl nearby FULL of water. Sometimes I think they don't drink from a dish because there's no cue from nature, rain drops etc. These fundamental basics of their physiology are not understood. If only they were like snakes re hydration.

I have seen so many people talk about their versicolor slings “dying out of nowhere.” So at first, it put a lot of fear in me, and I’ve even had people try to tell me that it’s an intermediate T. 💀 But I truly do think it’s due to either lack of water and/or lack of air flow, or simply lack of proper research. Because although I do drop water on its webbing every couple of days, I was always skeptical of how much water it was actually getting. So I always let the bowl dry out and refill as needed. Seems to be thriving :)

It’s the easiest Avic to own- the reasons of death are all the above
