This is a newer spider to my collection and it’s extremely high strung, which I suspect is due to its setup. I lifted the lid of the enclosure slowly and it still tried to hide in the bottom of its full water dish. I hoped to avoid rehousing, but it looks like I’ll need to anyway.
They are understated and too often underrated beauties! And there is quite a variety in size, color and behavior as you too are seeing! Most of my Aphonopelma I would describe as less excitable tarantulas, although with some variance even within species. Nothing beats my A. marxi however; at a certain size, they decided they were truly fearsome spiders and throw threat poses basically whenever I open their enclosures and attack the water dish or the water refilling it. I can’t help it; I find them adorably funny!
