In the late fall through winter, vinegaroons burrow underground and become inactive. This is likely because they are molting or getting ready to molt because they time the molts with the seasons to an extent (at least when they get larger and are only molting once a year).
They can go through long dormancy periods, especially if about to molt. I had one go under when gravid in early Fall, it had babies there and overwintered with the babies until Spring. That one was under 9 months.
