When I had my Ts in my parents' house briefly, my sisters constantly reminded me that if any of them ever escaped they would get squished on sight. So I was pretty surprised one day when my sisters texted me saying that one of my slings got out and they caught it for me! When I got home I...
You've got the greatest dollar store in the world. There are so many dollar stores here it's ridiculous, but none of them have awesome deals like that! Closest I can get is $1.50 for 3 or $2 for 4(not the exact same containers, but the same size)
But honestly, with 1/2" slings, and especially...
A nearby pet store had a "striped leg tarantula" that wasn't visible in its hide, so I asked the "tarantula expert" which species it was, having such a vague common name, and they claimed it to be an E murinus. I wanted to get it out into a deli cup to see if I could get any idea of gender(it...
$120 for a large female X immanis :D More than I thought I would ever pay on a T, but that's usually the price of a sling! I couldn't pass up the opportunity.
I've gotten P murinus, B vagans, N tripepii, and L parahybana as freebies, so those would be the "cheapest" I've had(still have the N tripepii). The least expensive one that I actually paid for would be the C elegans that I got as a 2i sling for $10. My most expensive T was my subadult female X...
Well, like the G rosea, H lividum are extremely common in pet stores now, so they no longer have the attraction of being new/rare/exiting. They do seem to still be quite popular(nobody can deny how beautiful and badass they are) but being so common I imagine there isn't a lot of motivation to...
I usually just have somebody look over my collection every couple days and inform me if anyone looks ill or if any other problems arise. I go over watering routines and some other basic stuff with them beforehand, but ideally they won't have to actually do anything with the Ts. 3 weeks is a bit...
Yeah, sometimes they don't seem to have any "leftovers". But even if your rosies are just really good at hiding their boluses, it shouldn't cause any problems. In the dry environment that rosies like, there's not much risk for mold or mite outbreaks.
I have Cyriocosmus elegans, and have had C ritae and C perezmilesi. The C ritae is a bit different from other Cyriocosmus spp., as they tend to be less fossorial when they start to mature. Most cyriocosmus sp. can be expected to be underground most of the time, and C ritae does this as slings...
If kept moist, it will turn into a beetle that some Ts love to munch and others will ignore. It's not a threat to your T, and may or may not become a tasty snack.
However, if you've never fed it mealworms before, then you should remove it as you don't know where it came from.
I'm not sure about US legislation, but in Canada BPA is prohibited in any plastics that are intended to be toys, or to be in contact with food or drink. So as far as bottle caps are concerned, anything from a bottle that I would drink from is safe. If it's a cap from, say, motor oil, then it...
My favorite species right now is Euathlus sp. red/yellow, for temperament, visibility, and aesthetics. Wonderful spiders! My favorite individual, though, is my C elegans. She's such a sweetie! Raised from 2i(itty bitty beyond belief!) and I can't get over how adorable she is. She's not as shy or...
I use the same method as catfishrod. Some Ts chew up their molts, or crush them, or bury them, etc. which might damage the area of interest, but I usually try soaking just in case. Be very careful when handling the dry exuvium! They are quite brittle. It's always a bummer when you finally get...
Unless you're keeping Ts in outdoor enclosures, or your house has very very poor insulation, local climate shouldn't be an issue for any species. If the temperature in your home doesn't put you at risk for hypothermia or heat stroke, then it should be an acceptable temperature for just about any...
I have a pretty small collection, but lately I have been thinking about downsizing(though still keeping Ts) so that I can focus my time and space on other hobbies as well. A bit of extra shelf space could open up all sorts of doors for me. I think I'll wait until my collection feels more...
"They never stop growing until they die, so if you take really good care if them they'll just keep growing forever and eventually be the size of dogs! But most people don't take good enough care of them."
I've seen some of my Ts feel around for their prey if it's not moving, and that can look like drumming sometimes. My rosie especially tends to do this when her crickets freeze to make themselves "invisible"...of course, when she finds them they usually run off as soon as she touches them. Not a...
I went to the trouble of designing a great naturalistic enclosure, including a real nice dark hide that I put together myself! But she never uses the hide, ever. Even when startled(which doesn't take much) she always stays out in the open. It's nice that she's on display, but I thought I was...
I don't own either, but I believe they have very similar care requirements. Personally I would go for the more colourful of the two(the hap), but I've heard that the argentinensis has some neat personality traits. Why don't you ask the breeder?
