    Really strange A. diversipes behavior.

My A. diversipes sling has been acting really weird (for an "avicularia"). He/she has now decided to forgo having multiple tubewebs to travel to every other day, and now has a burrow. Seriously. A burrowing arboreal. Now I know that Pokies are known for this behavior. My P. ornata has...

    A terrible day.

@Joe: Your post made me lol. :P Also, whenever I write, "WTF", it means What The Frack - as a Battlestar Gallactica reference. As for the cat - some good ideas but I will just have to train him. He is trained not to go in the kitchen. Not going around the tarantulas shouldn't be too...

    A terrible day.

I'm a little irritated that this thread got moved. There was a 20 page hate fest in the discussion forum about a guy brownboxing spiders into the states (which I really don't care about and doesn't affect me)... It didn't get moved - just closed. But this conversation which is just as...

    A terrible day.

I enjoy a good cat, but they are hard to come by. :P Seriously - cats are wild animals. Having a "good" one seems to result in a cat with a more pleasant or well mannered than usual personality. These types of cats would probably mercifully kill their food quickly if they were outside or...

    A terrible day.

I fail to see how the issue of keeping tarantulas with a significant other and the problems this can bring up is not a significant issue to the hobby. We have enough drama on the boards these days. Let's not add to it.

    A terrible day.

This made me laugh. LOL! No... I hate the cat. However, I am not willing to let something like that happen to him or my gf to go through that. As it turns out, some of the other posters in this thread were correct. I talked to my gf about it, and she told me I was being totally...

    A terrible day.

Some of you are a lot nicer than me. Finding a new gf is really not that hard. Finding the M. balfouri took an hour and a half - before I was supposed to wake up. I am not willing to compromise to coexist with an animal that I cannot stand. Life is too short to be spineless. This is...

    A terrible day.

Have any of you ever lost a relationship because of your Ts? My live in gf of over a year has a cat I cannot stand. I don't like cats much anyway, but this one is a prime example of everything I loathe in that particular kind of animal. Anyway, I got woken up today with my frantic gf telling...

    Female P. Metallica pricing

I wish there was a like button for this comment lol. Indeed. I've spent more at the strip club with my x wife than I EVER have or ever will on any spider. It kind of makes you think. Everyone has their own priorities. I will never pay more than a few grand for a vehicle, and some people...

    Female P. Metallica pricing

Wow! You could have snatched that up, sold it the next day and made a profit. Don't you hate it when you don't have the cash for a great deal that comes up like that?

    Female P. Metallica pricing

hmmm My M. balfouri sling was priced at $300. I won't pay more than 150 for a P. metallica, though. I personally don't think they are all that rare and are just a fad spider. I paid a little over 100 for my A. diversipes sling. ::shrug:: You get what you pay for. The rarer or more...

    TX Senate OKs "Reptile Bill"

Interesting. I'm still relatively new to Texas. This state has some really odd laws.

    Water dish issue

Are you using cold water? Try warm water. It could be condensation. I personally just use bottle caps from my water bottles at home and they work fine.

Creative T Housing: thinking outside the tank

OP, why not think further outside the tank... Use your head idea, and do what you were planning to do, but turn it upside down. Build a stand for it so it stays upright, but that way your T will have much more "floor space" than just using the neck.

    Weirdo M. balfouri

I'd like to get some anecdotes of behavior from other people who keep M. balfouri. Mine is odd - or maybe not. My other spiders are more active and more comfortable during the night. Not my balfouri. She (pretty sure it's a she) is most active in the morning until right after noon. It's...

    Is this enclosure too small?

If you feed your tarantula crickets, it could be a cricket that molted. As for the size... any other spider I would say it's on the small side for, but an average G. rosea does not need a lot of space. They don't really move much... well, most of them. Rose Hairs are weird.

    Not quite successful molt...

Unless you mist 2 or 3 times a day like me, alternating between a fine spray and a concentrated spray. All of my Avics have been molting perfectly too.

    Hybrids = bad. Why?

<edit> No need to destroy them. I would not mind keeping a hybrid shelf for fun. If I ever do mate my spiders, it will be known species to known species for "pure" offspring, so all the purists can relax. I guess I am just not all that concerned about spider eugenics. :P

    arboreal tarantulas

I have to give a +1 for an Avicularia versicolor. My versicolor sling is the only one I feel comfortable handling. It's calm enough it won't make a mad dash into nowhere and hurt itself.

Old World Equivalent to Brachypelma boehmei

    M. balfouri as you said meets all of your criteria. My suggestion is to just save up and get the spider you really want since you have limited space.
