Hello! I was wondering what would be suitable to keep in here, I finally got one, got it on sale due to it being an open “box”

I was thinking about 1-3 blue death beetles but idk if i can even find any right now lol, was also thinking of a tailless whip scorpion, but a few ppl said it would only work for smaller species and it’d be pretty tight

(not sure if any scorpion would work or things like mantids)

Any other ideas would be appreciated, thank you!

Instead of trying to figure out what animals you can shoehorn into an enclosure, research the animals that you are passionate about and then go from there.

thanks i agree, and i laid out some options in hopes someone could help, i wouldn’t aimlessly put anything in there, i just wanted extra ideas lol

i have a ton of tanks from sizes 2.5-20g that i could use i was just wondering what would work in there and like i said i gave what i would like and maybe i haven’t thought of the stuff people would suggest

for instance i didn’t know about tailless whip scorpions then someone recommended it and i got fascinated, i take animal care quite seriously so i wouldn’t “shoehorn an animal in there” like on my previous post a while ago i said i took a month ish of research before i got my two Ts unlike the MANY people who put them in a tank with no cross ventilation w wood chips and 1 inch of substrate with a sponge in their water bowl

so respectfully, i’m just trying to come up with ideas or see if these animals would work SINCE there’s not a ton of info on things like this

sorry for the long reply

it’s 8.75Wx8.5Lx12H i believe
Could you provide a picture, and I assume the measurements are cms. not inches.
Your idea of some species of beetle, or a colony of isopods would work, something that doesn't need deep substrate or vertical height.

That's better with the pictures, I was thinking of the plastic critter keeper type.
With that size a Praying Mantis would be good, I would suggest stick insects but I believe there are strange laws regarding sticks over there.
The smaller Tailess Whip Scorpions would also be okay in there as you have 12 inches of vertical height.

praying mantis do sound intriguing, any idea which ones live the longest and are beginner friendly? hate that they don’t live long

Praying Mantis can't eat "pillbugs" or Armadillidium isopods, but will eat soft shelled isopods, sowbugs. I would recommend providing numerous hiding spaces that the praying mantis can't access, to keep the numbers up. It is possible, with a little extra effort.

H. membranacea would fit perfect in there as well as Stagmomantis sp., Deroplatys (long lived), Sphodromantis, and a bunch of others. It depends on your preference. Those are all basic species, Deroplatys are just a bit more finicky and can be hard to find for sale.

2ish years with proper care. I know someone who had one go 3.
I heard fresh dead insects can be fed and it’s better since they can get hurt by live prey? i’m not sure how true this is, i’m ordering blue death beetles on bugs in cyber space and they are out of the mantis tho

Mantids are visual hunters. They require the movement of the living prey to trigger their feeding response.
