SOME people need a full eight hours of sleep to feel rested and be in a good mood, all I need is four hours of sleep, a cup of coffee, and a molting spider!!!

I just finished watching my 3" sub-adult P. cambridgei "River" molt. And of course I took a TON of photos. I have a realative understanding of how the new exo forming and everything, but all I could think of as I watched this was "how in the heck did he fit that new exo in the old one!" and "I wonder if they feel relieved when they molt...like taking off a sweater that was to many sizes to small." (Ok...maybe I DO need more sleep lol) the size increase was just astonishing and that was just watching it molt, I can't imagine how big s/he's going to look all stretched out!

Pictures are to come shortly, I'm taking a few more, and then I'll have to fuss with photobucket, but they are to come, I promise. :)

You sure have had an active molting week!! I've gone through 100's of molts and I am still in awe of the size difference after each one. My P. irminia nearly doubled after its last molt. It has got to be one of the most amazing processes in nature. Now get that coffee in your system so you can post those pics!!!

lol, my molts almost always come in pairs for whatever reason. It really is just incredible, I just looked in on him/her and he's flipped back over, and the little molt is scrunched in the corner and its like "wow...he really squeezed out of that thing" even just his legs look like their four times thicker than before.

I'm uploading the pics now. :D

I'm only going to put a few of the molt-process pics here, I'll post all of them up in my gallery though. -link in sig-

Also, I wasn't the only one spectating...:}

Even my arachnophobic dad came in to take a look as it happened. then he panicked when he saw my B. smithi "Marik's" most recent shed sitting on my bookshelf. {D

Love it {D. I would be inclined to say the same, minus the coffee ;).

Great pics! River is quite gorgeous. As per the "taking off an outgrown sweater," I don't think the T feels that much of a pressure difference during apolysis, until it begins inflating its new exo with air and fluid to pop out of its old skin. In that sense though, they must feel some form of squeeze, but don't quote me on it; I've had 1 & 1/2 hours of sleep and am currently seeing some brilliantly bright spots!

Sooo its a sweater that magically fits until you try to take it off, got it. LOL. I really do wonder what it feels like for them though.

She looks like female ventrally, but now you have a nice new molt to check.

She does look great, though. I plan on finally getting a cambridgei at the show at the end of the month. I can't believe we don't have one yet.

Yeah, there was some contrasting views earlier though, so I'm pretty anxious to check.

Thanks, I used to want an irminia more, and I still really like them, but the cambridgei just has the most gorgeous subtle beuty, plus mine has a hella spunk. {D Anyways, I really reccomend the species, one of my favorites.

I'm right there with you. I have gone back and forth whether I want an irminia or cambridgei but I'm sure I want a cambridgei more. Their beauty is much more subtle but they're so stunning. And they get bigger. How often does yours come out of hiding?

Pretty often acctually, one of my more active Ts thats for sure. Plus she has one hell of an attitude, meaner than my P. murinus on occassion, and she's a great eater! I'm sure I'll get an irminia eventually, but I prefer more subtle earthy tones. (I think that may be one of the reasons I'm so attracted to african species)

Cool, good to know. Attitude is good, that'll help balance out my pulchras and aphonopelmas. The psalmo is probably going to be my next, and one of the last, Ts I get.
