the way you got your hand in its cage is just like asking to get nailed by it.

Yeah must be another sub species or color variation? Pulchra price for something else?

do they change color for pre molt?
Congrats either way wish I had a Grammostola.
I actually did do some research and found some sources that say that Pulchras can switch between Black & Brownish in some specimens

Just looked into it a little further. Other keepers have actually talked about their Pulchras having a brownish tint before molting. Meaning mine may be in pre-molt

Tint? Man that T is brown as can be in that pic

I’ve owned only one, an AF, and not once during her time was she remotely brown. Now if that’s possible that some are brown- sure would like to see that data, would be interesting to read.

I got yet another Brazilian Black. Ordered her online and she came perfectly healthy and she's an absolute sweetheart.
I've seen in person a 3.5 inch G. pulchra that was dark brown. Some will turn black when bigger and some can turn black smaller. I've seen smaller ones turn black.

The other thing with sticking your hand in the enclosure are UrS. You might not get bit but you will experience the joy of UrS eventually. It is not a fun experience as I learned.

I assume by UrS you mean urticating hairs? I've experienced them from my G. Roses who is now unfortunately dead. And I can definitely agree that it is NOT fun.

Yeah Urticating Setae or UrS for short.

I'm highly sensitive to them. I only got a few on the back side of my hand. Worse itch I ever experienced then I broke out in a hive on my hand.

yeah, mis-labeled pulchra are like that. Quorogi is the commonly confused species, which looks nearly identical...aside from browning late in the molt cycle.

But no one as far as I know has ever proved that Grammostola quirogai is present in the hobby through a proper identification. Further, the recent redescription of G. pulchra describes the coloration of both males and females as brownish-black so the color brown isn't a good indicator of species. What really distinguishes these hobby G. pulchra- such as the one pictured here- from the actual G. pulchra found in Southern Brazil is the lack of long whitish/ yellowish hairs covering the body. Also, the redescription of G. pulchra elaborates that their comparison of the CO1 gene from the mitochondrial DNA of G. pulchra with that of G. quirogai and what is in GenBank as G. pulchra is a completely separate evolving lineage. This is a clue that there is a third species of black Grammostola that can be confused with G. quirogai and G. pulchra. It is fun to ponder if these hobby G. pulchra could be that mysterious species.

strict trade regulations are the reason why it’s not in the hobby right? Good or bad I don’t know enough about Brazil to comment about it .
Real shame because the forest is being cut down . I don’t think I’ve seen a picture of it.
