The big C. crawshayi girl that I have been TRYING to rehabilitate has refused food for weeks. She was skinny when I got her, and had a badly damaged leg. She struggled a lot with the problem leg, and I found her on her back trying to remove it! When I came home from work and found it flipped over her eyes, I figured that it was time to amputate. Later that week she had maggots in the socket and I cleaned it out with q-tips and sealed it with a drop of clear nail polish. I've been keeping her in a shoebox with a hide, on sphagnum moss because it holds humidity well. I keep a corner of her box on my snake's heating pad.

She still refused food and looked weak and horrible.

Today, though, I thought I would try to feed her again, just in case.

She took a dubia off my tongs!! I thought she had just killed it and dropped it at first, but then she picked it up and started munching. YAY!!!

When she took that cricket, I wanted to cry. There have been so many times that I opened her enclosure and thought she was dead. She was SO weak, but I just kept doing everything I could. Hopefully this means she'll pull through. If she does make it, I swear she's never going anywhere. She's special. :D

This morning the dubia is nothing but a little bolus. :D I pulled that out (am trying to keep her cage conditions pristine) and I'll try to feed her again tonight.

She's still skinny, but I'm less worried about that if she's taking food. She never was shriveled or anything, just much too thin for a 7" C. crawshayi.

Yeah, she's not exactly "pretty" right now...but she's doing better than she was.

Hopefully the improvement will continue...I try not to be too attached, though, because I am still very concerned about her.

I keep her shoebox very clean and a day or two after she ate, I picked her up to move her in order to clean out the bolus (which was in 2 pieces in her hide). What self-respecting healthy King Baboon lets herself be pinched-picked-up without any fuss? :( She stridulated a little and that's about it.

That's really amazing. I hope she pulls through and when she molts you absolutely have to post that picture and the one after the molt. It's amazing how these guys can rebuild themselves with each new molt.
