Titan and Darla are my yellow sac spiders. I'm going to try and breed them, and came up with a double enclosure joined by plastic tubing.

I'm going to put them in separately, plug the holes, and then join the two containers when I'm ready to breed them.

Both appear to be adults, and Darla just molted last Tuesday, and ate yesterday. I looked at the pedipalps before I collected them, to make sure they're opposite sexes.

What do you all think about the enclosure I made. And should I wait until spring to pair them, or do it soon before they're too old?

Since they're wild caught the female has an increased chance of producing an egg sac. I do think the enclosure is interesting and I'm looking forward to seeing updates!

Pairing attempt recap:

Titan made his way into Darla's enclosure while I stepped away for a few minutes. They were both out for a bit, but then Darla retreated back into her sack.

Titan walked around and explored for a bit, and disturbed her. She did what appeared to be a threat display, and he ran as fast as I've ever seen him run.

They had a few more tense and scary interactions before Titan found his way back into his enclosure, and I separated the two again.

Is it possible they had already mated in the few minutes that I was away, and that she got uppity because he overstayed his welcome? How long does the mating ritual normally take for these spiders?
