I thought that it was possible for females to retain sperm, even post molt for a future fertilization?

Hi Tony,
Don't P.ultramarinus max out at about 5"?

Lucky man, what a beautiful species. I'd love to have a good look at an exuvium of this species, it looks a lot like it would fit nicely into Lasiodorides.

Cheers,
Steve

Nope, the spermathecae linings are shed along with any stored sperm when they moult.

So help me get this right. It is possible for a female to produce more than one eggsac from the sperm of a single mating? It would have to all be done inbetween molts. Right?

Hi Tony,
I would really appreciate that a lot. I'm collecting theraphosid exuvia, so this would be fantastic! You don't have one from your big female L.parahybana do you??

Thanks,
Steve

Though I've never had a successful breeding ( YET!! ;P ) from a T, it's my understanding that they can lay more than one eggsac off a single mating, but it's not likely to happen. Some true spiders do it regularly though, like black widows. And yes, the T must be paired AND ley an eggsac before her next molt or she will not be able to fertilize it because the sperm is lost in the molting process.

Hey Tony, how about a photo of your female? I had a 4" female that never really thrived; she lost weight over a period of a year and died. Beautiful tarantula, I was torn up to lose that one.

This is a wonderfull spider from a great family of spiders I have just recently begun to explore I would strongly suggest most any Pamphobeteus.
