YAY! P. chordatus molt pics

I got to watch my brand new (unpacked this morning and she was flipped over lol) P. chordatus sling finish her molt!

She also earned a name, "Fiddle" (which is the official musical instrument of the "Show Me" state )

From looking at the molt, I think it's female? But I have really no clue how to sex molts

I've been checking my Ts every couple of hours hoping to catch a molt, I've yet to see the process and i've got three in premolt right now.

As for sexing, you'd need a closer pic.

I don't think I can do it with my camera.. I figured out the issue with the lense, but now I think the flash has problems

you've got the right idea, just need to get closer to the area of the booklungs. What kind of camera do you have? If you go into "modes" and theres a little flower thats the close up setting which may yeild better results. (Of course I don't know if your camera has that option)

I take all my T pictures with macro It's a Sony that I've had for.. 8 years? lol It's about reached the end of its little life haha

The area you look at to sex ventrally, on this molt, is a slit... so I would assume that's female.

well, on the inside of the molt, between the book lungs, is there a little flap? or is it just flat. If there is a flap its female. (I think)

After zooming in it kind of looks female.

By a flap, do you mean like an opening? There is an opening, it's not just solid.

Both male and female have a slit looking spermathecae but the female has the extra part.

Your molt looked to be in excellent condition. With the right macro shot, you would be able to see it. Sometimes putting it over a lamp helps show it more clearly.

Heres a shot to put it in perspective. I use a 5 MP Sony camera. This is the L parahybana spermathecae next to my finger. Its the same picture of the LP spermathecae as above.

I think naming them is one of the reasons I always want more. Mackenzie actually isn't allowed to name anything anymore, once I let him name one of our freebie slings and what does he name it? Bruce Willis. So now I do the naming, haha.

How big is the molt, I agree it looks to be in perfect condition, but could it possibly still be to small? (I kind of doubt it, but i might as well throw it out there)

It IS pretty small.. I am still forgetting to measure things when I have the chance LOL

I just measured it.. it's probably a hair shy of two inches if it was layin' flat. I think there IS a flap, and that it's pushed down.. now that I look at it. But I'm not real sure. It's okay, I don't mind not knowin' what he/she is yet lol
