so back in July of last year i got my first t, my sweet Lilly a G. rosea.
in all that time he has only eaten one cricket. (yes i know lilly is not a guys name, but i named him before i knew the sex, and i'm still not really sure but that is off on a tangent.

anywho.

I came home after work today and was getting the crickets that i just bought put away and fed and put the mouse away and did some general stuff in the reptile room. Of course i check everyone out just to make sure all's well. So when i look in Lillys tank i notice that there is a ton of webbing, now the first thing that i think of with any of my other t's is wow a molt. yay. I'm happy. however with Lilly i thought ok now that is odd. i know the t that never eats is not molting so who knows. i was chalking it up to "that's a rosie for ya"
well i just went back into the room on a whim and what do you know, he is molting. I'm so happy, a bit taken aback but sooo happy, i can't wait to confirm sex and see how much nicer he looks fresh. as it is he is beautiful a bright coppery pink. I'm sooo excited, i wonder how long it will take.

anyway ok yeah not reallt post worthy but my husband didn't want to listen to me so ya'll can.

Cliff notes:
Rosie hasn't eaten once in 8 months.
and is now molting.

If you're right and it's a him, it looks like this might it's mature molt. Now worries though, male roseas are known for their longevity (I've heard 3+ years), or you could send him out to breed and get a hundred or so babies back:D .

if it is, then that will be ok. I've had 3 others mature and they were sent off to populate the world. he really isn't that big.

I only mentioned it because that was about the size of mine the molt before he matured. I kinda wished I kept him though cuz his date ate him on the second breeding attempt. The good news was that the first attempt was a success and we're waiting for her to start ballooning up. Good luck though! I love male roseas though. All the quirks of a normal rosea without all that "pet rock" deal.

No, that's about right. A tarantula that never eats is probably just in premolt, as yours was. Mine was in premolt for eight months too. I don't know why you'd think a T not eating will never molt. :? Cause they almost always are. :D

A spider of any real size can take a long time, yes.

mushroom, oh i know about the premolt thing, i was just saying that i thought it was funny that in all the time i had him all the excitement i got was him eating once and then hooking out. I have an A. genic that has been in premolt for 4 months, nothing to eat with a booty to entice sir mix alot. and on the time thing i have jsut never had one take as long, but i was thinking that rosies do it like they do everything else. Against the grain :)

Good you have a sense of humor about the whole thing! I'm hoping that some day my female rosea molts so I can begin looking for Mr. Right for her. Maybe this year! Hope you can find a female for yours and maybe get some offspring!

I say keep him. My male who got eaten was my first T and I'm finding myself regretting giving him up. Maybe I would think differently if he wasn't eaten, but who knows.
