i posted the other day about my g. rosea laying an egg sac with out breeding (she was a recent petshop buy) and when i came home from class i saw her walk out of her burrow (sac-less) and get a big drink of water. would she just leave her egg sac in her burrow or is this perhaps an indication that she may have eaten the sac? thanx for the help!!

She could have just wanted some water but also G.Rosea are also known to eat the egg sacs as well. I would probably check on the egg sac if its still there or not.

It be a good idea to check if the sack is there just for your own peace of mind. I would hope that she is only thirsty and will soon go back to care for her sack.

When my G. rosea was caring for her eggsack, she would at times leave the sack to do things like cage maintenance. So hopefully I'm answering your question by saying they will leave the sack alone at times.

Good luck with the eggsack.

If she stays away from it for an extended time I'd say it was a dud or eaten. if she goes back to her hide and gaurds it I would say its still there.

I have seen mom leave the sac in the hide but only for a short period of time then she goes back in to guard it.

I'd say to give her a little more time. They won't always be right there next to or holding onto the eggsack. If you can check without disturbing her too much, then do so.

i remember reading and i agree that Ts eventually come to think of the whole tank as their hide. so her being in the tank with the sack somewhere in the tank, she's still protecting it b/c the whole tank is her hide not just the log.

Some species do this more than others but yes they will put the sack down for a moment from time to time to go get water and food usually.

When they don't go back to it is time for concern.
