I wouldnt think you would have to wait to handle it after it has shed. Its just dead skin but I dont know a whole lot about snakes.

You can pretty much handle snakes right after shedding. I have heard people say you should wait 24-48 hours before handling them...something to do with their skin being a little tender right after shedding. But I don't think that's an issue at all. I've handled snakes immediately after shedding, and they don't ever seem to object. But if you'd rather be safe than sorry...that's cool too.

As for preserving the skin, there's nothing you need to do really. Snakeskin doesn't go bad or anything like that. Keeping it in a plastic bag or something will do, it's fun to keep their sheds, then a few years down the road, compare sheds and see just how much they've grown. Just be careful not to leave sheds on certain surfaces for long periods of time (mostly plastic). The skin will eventually stick and tear when you try to take it off, leaving a piece of skin behind that's tough to remove without a damp cloth.
