Well, I think this is the correct section for this post...

Earlier today, while at work, I found a single lonely little woodlouse crossing the hallway near my desk. So of course, I had to rescue it. I put the little critter in a small ceramic dish. About 15 minutes later, I looked in the dish and saw....babies!!! Lots of them! I'm counting 30 in there.

So now what? Will they be able to live in the ceramic dish for the rest of the day until I get home? Do I need to go outside and scoop up some dirt for them? Also, do woodlice make good cleaner isopods for enclosures?

You will want to add a little moist soil for them to keep hydrated if your going to keep them. There require constant moisture to survive. They make great little cage cleaners in damp enclosures. Good luck with those little babies. They feed on decaying leaf litter, veggie scraps etc. Just keep them moist, not wet and they should do fine.

Easy enough. Kept just like any other millipede. I guess I'll step outside and get a scoop of the freshly rain-soaked dirt from the garden. They've been in the dish for about 2 1/2 hours now. Hope I'm not too late with the dirt!

Thanks!

So far, the momma has died, but I have found 3 living babies crawling around. Hopefully there's more that I haven't found?? I'm excited about the possibility of raising isopods!
