I love wolf spiders and i thought people should have a personal wolf spider forum, My beautiful furry 8 legged baby Octogon/yes that is his name and spelled correctly) is a rabid wolfspider found escaping a recycling bin and is my buddy, so
if you have any advice/ or Questions for other wolf spider keepers, this is the right place!(ignore my errors i needed coffee)

My boyfriend has HUGE wolf spiders living in his house. I always make him take them outside when I see them. But I read somewhere that house spiders who have lived inside their entire life do not survive outside. So next time I see an enormous wolf spider in his house I’m wondering if I should try just keeping it? I would be fine with that except I don’t know how to care for them, yet.

What do you feed the spider?

Hey there! Is this a wolf spider with babies on her back? I saw this little gal while on a hike recently in Massachusetts. You might have to zoom in.

Thanks!

Yup. What are the evergreen 'leaves' in the picture? I'm guessing juniper. Lovely lichen. Mom natures Rorschach test.

Yes. This behavior is unique to wolf spiders (Lycosidae); the mothers have special hairs on their abdomens to which the spiderlings cling.

Nice find, appears to be Hogna frondicola.

Thank you for the info Reign and Ungoliant! Do you guys know if wolf spiders travel far? Or perhaps she has a home nearby that trail? I visit that place a lot so I'll keep my eye out for more. They are quite fascinating.

My tree knowledge is definitely lacking, but juniper sounds about right. The place I took this photo is a bluff on a hill, about 491 feet above sea level. It's basically my favorite place in Mass, especially to relax. The photo I'm attaching shows the trees that dropped those leaves. Let me know what you think it is. And I agree, the lichen is very pretty. It's all over the rock ledges up there.

The wolf spider was sitting just outside this image to the left. She was running right toward me and then stopped and let me snap that photo from the previous post. I congratulated her on her babies haha.
