Hey all!
I captured a HUGE, largest I have ever seen, wolf spider Sat. evening. She was HUGE. At least 2.5-3" leg span! She was sitting in my garage, and looked really relaxed. It startled me seeing her on surprise, even though I keep large T's.
Her abdomen was VERY large, so I assumed she was pregnant. I put her in a critter keeper w/ some peat moss, etc. She didn't seem to mind, she was slower moving than normal.
I checked on her this morning, and she had a HUGE eggsac attatched to her abdomen (underside). It was absolutely beautiful! I sprayed a little water on her, and she drank readily!
How long will it take them to hatch? I know they will be hanging out on her back after they hatch, right? How long will they do that? She is the tan/brown/black wolf spider. Very common here in southern VA. Just the largest I have seen!
I read about their eyes being reflective somewhere on this forum last summer.
And I would see them at night running across the road when my lights reflected off their eyes. It looks kinda blue. When I held her cage up towards the light, I could see her eyes reflecting! I think it is absolutely amazing!
Thanks!
