OK, I'm going to stop using my ID thread.

To rethread

I woke up this morning and was checking my inverts and joked to myself before I closed the door "Huh, wonder if I got another egg sac..." Well I did.

So now, what do I do? It has just been dropped within 3-5 days max. I can't keep each baby. I don't have any vials and wasn't expecting this at all (Not a spider guy).

Maybe an average hatch time, I'm pretty sure these will stick with mom on her back for a while but how long? After the hatch when do I try feeding mom so the babies can feed.

Now a container, I have a 6gt L sterilite container with bedding ready to rock and roll. What is the likely hood these little guys can escape? I know mom can't climb which I've read wolfs can't for the most part and don't. How well will they get along if kept all together? I know they will weed out the weak and deformed ones.

Lastly, what is know on having more sacs from one mating on these guys.

All help will be greatly appreciated.

Are slings from that genus and species worth anything? Like I said, I can't keep them I have no containers. Guess I'm going to need to start searching.

I would pay you shipping if we could figure out how to have you send me the sac. I would raise up a bunch and let a ton loose when it warms up.

if you get babies, i would pull some leaf little and rotten wood in a container w/ them. surely, there would be little inverts among the debris to sustain the spiders. Isaac, the species pictured is likely abundant in AL and you shouldnt have to go far to find them rather than pay to have an egg sac shipped to you.

I am not going to have them to just have them. I want to raise em up a bit and scatter them on a camping trip to make sure they live. By the sounds of it... he might not have anywhere to go with the sac.... and might abandon it?

I put a reply to part of your questions in the other thread. Didnt see this one at first. As for the multiple sacs from the same mating, I have had as many as 5 sacs from the same female in a row. However it seems the female is less likely to a lay a new sac if the inital slings are still there. From my experience, the mother may lay another sac almost immediately after pulling a sac, or after seperating slings, but if I left the slings in place, the mother waited longer between laying another sac. These are just personal observations and by no means a definitive description of what will happen.

As for feeding, you can pretty much feed the mother all thru the process, the young may feed off of small pieces left over. Most of the time the young are confined to mom only a period of 2-3 weeks with some leaving early some hanging late. This may be variable species to species.

The cheapest source of small containers I have found is catering or party stores where you can get like 200 small containers used for party condiments or such in bulk cheap.

Could you name one of these stores and a maybe googled discription of what to look for. If there is little chance of escape could I transfer all the babies to a larger container communally? How long till I should expect them to emerge and crawl on mom? Oh, how many should I expect from this clutch?

Oh, this container she is in is far from escape proof for slings if they can climb. How can I transfer her now to the large 6qt long sterilite I already have setup without her stressing and eating the sac? Since she has made her little nest already? Can I just do this when they hatch and go on her back just get her to goto the new container?

Could you set up a container and pretty much bury hers in the middle of it? I would go buy deli cups at walmart and lids (they are by the paper plates and such, they use em for salad dressings in resterants.)... 5$ at most for all of it.. put about 3/4" substrate in each cup and put a sling in each. You should be set for a while with that.

Ok, I will make a trip to Walmart today when I go out to go to the bank and see what i can find. There is a party store around there somewhere too.

Well, I went ahead an dropped in an ok sized cric and she had it before it touched the ground. How venomous are these spiders? They seem to kill them instantly compared to my scorpions even my jacksoni and martensii.

I don't think you will have to worry about them biting you. They are prolly venomous like a bee sting. They prolly kill faster because they have fangs that are stabbing in and conjuring about. to wear a scorpion just pokes em and waits for it to set in. Know what I mean? I spider actually just goes right to business.

Well, I went to wally world and couldn't find those containers, when asked they said no. So I went to the 1hr-photo and got a bunch of film canisters. Then drove around to a few other stores collecting a few maybe have 15-20 total going to call around and request they save them.

I was told that the fangs from a wolf spider bite would hurt more than the venom would, and even that would be fairly small.
Good luck with the egg sac. I've got a wild caught wolf spider that I'm keeping an eye out for a sac, just in case.

Hi,

The sac should hatch in a couple weeks. Babies will ride on mom for another couple weeks. Then they will leave her back, molt and begin turning on each other. You can let them thin themselves down to a manageable number. This is what I experienced with H. gerogicola last winter (and will be dealing with again shortly).

Look up catering or party supplies in the Yellow pages. There are places that carry 1 and 2 oz condiment cups that will work well for keeping the slings (and T slings).

This is what your looking for. The same thing a Jello shot is born in :D.. if you drink. You can get them at any major food supply store. GFS? Film canisters might become a pain in the butt because you can't really see into them without opening them. Let us know what you come up with.

Yeah, those are the kinds of containers I was looking for. I have a few which I got from a shipment of scorps. I'll try and see what I can work up.

I'd rather use those film canisters for shipping baby scorps. I'm going to let the strong survive then keep those who make the 'weeding' process.

If you want to transfer her, I would suggest doing it now before they hatch. Once they are on moms back it makes it tricky. The slightest spook and they are likely to jump off, and you could have tiny wolfs everywhere. You should be able to move her now without stressing her to the point that she would eat the sac.

Gordon Food Service (GFS) is where i get all of my little sling cups, and as said they are intended as condiment cups for catering or parties. I buy packs of like 200 for next to nothing and have raised all sorts of spiders in them.

Cool, I have a GFS about 12miles away I will just goto when I'm heading home form work one day or now when I go out to get a new pair of shoes by there.

Well the mom leaves the nest from what I see but carries the sac along then rushes back to the hole when startled. How can I properly incubate the sac in a new container without mom? I Have no time to turn or roll it.

GFS great place! A lot closer than mapquest showed not even the correct address or anything so good deal. I spent 33 bucks though :(

Bought 250 4oz, 250 2oz, 50 16oz, then all the lids for these since they are separate. So I have a feeling I'm going to be set for a long time until I get all my emps and lots of them are super gravid I hear.

Need to know when to separate this wolfy into the other container? Guess once they are all on mom if I can just put her and the sac in there without worry I'd like to know.
