Well, I did it....

I put 3 subadult A.avics in a 20gal terarium with plenty of hide spots. Now if I only had a digital camera... It LOOKS awesome, and I'm REALLY hoping they'll co-exist without deciding to go at each other. They're all well fed and each enjoying a cricket to themself even as I'm typing this.... so far, so good. I just can't wait to see if it pans out and I wind up with eggsacs at some point in the future!:D

Interestingly enough, I already had one of these A.avics, and bought 3 more today, but one of the new ones doesn't look like an A.avic....:? It's much closer to brown than black, and has white tipped hairs. I'm still looking at pics to try to detemine if it looks significantly like any other type of Avicularia common on the market. Until identified, I'm keeping it seperately.

On another note, my recently mated G.rosea has displayed an extreme change in temperment, hopfully indicating that she is now gravid? :D She's normally very laid back about feeding and never chases her crix. Today I tossed about 5 or 6 in and she went NUTZ!! She was actually running around with her fangs full chasing down the closest of them, and to get the last one she even dropped the rest in her effort to chase it down, then took it back to the pile to add to her little feast! It was a real show!:p

Ooooo nifty! That also means you're possibly dispelling the theory that only spiders within the same brood will co-exist...

Could I ask what dimensions the tank is please?

Any ideas on possible genders of the spiders?

Keep us all updated!

Hah, my rosie was the opposite; A vile PMS infested beast, then when she became gravid calmed down and prepared a nifty nursey zone :D

The enclosure is a glass tank with sliding screen lid, 1' deep, 2' wide, and about 15" tall. Haven't really made any attempts to sex any of them yet. Hoping they're females of course!:D I know it's a gamble, but I just had to try it.

My G.rosea has eaten in her usual "If a crick walks close enough..." manner since her last molt a few weeks ago until today. This is the first time I've fed her since I mated her to the male I got and I was amazed at her reaction. And BTW caligula... I think I saw her running around with one of those things in there too!! (LOL);P

I'll post any notable updates as they happen. Just wish me luck and cross your fingers that none of those updates will hold bad news.:}

good luck, and let us know how it goes.
I'm hopin to get a communal P regalis tank going before the end of the year. I have a 100 gallon aquarium that I have big plans for.
I'm trying to figure out how to bring this plan to fruition...

I have 5 1in. A. avic slings all together. Two have their webbed hidey spots already after putting them in yestersay. Alot of hide spots, about a 5 1/2 gal kritter keeper. I get them some crix later but it looks like they're all in remolt anyway.
