a b.smithi as far as i know. got told it was a classroom pet, doesn't like to be held and " can't really ship it". so i don't know if it will be on the defensive side or what. but my rosie had a time he was grumpy.
the thing is, the only t's i had that were "big" was my 4 1/2" g.rosea, and a curly about that size. i did have a little b.smithi sling about 3/4". but this one looked like it was bigger (juvie, adult). anything i need to know? freshen up my memory... it's been awhile since i had a T (2 years).

aahhh, i can't wait...:wall:

Keep it dry with a water dish and a hide that is really all you need, be sure that there isnt too much height if it climbs and falls it isnt good. Like 1.5 x its length from the substrate to the top.

Good Luck with the T it is a very tough T so you should be good watch for the hair:)

Peace

not sure what soil is in there, i'm gonna get the bricks that i used before soon and make some fresh supstrate if needed. but her tank came with 2 hides and a water dish, has two unter the tank heaters and a temp gage. tank ia 32" long, 13" high and 13" deep.
gonna let her (i hope) settle in, got a lock on the lid (just in case, since my boy likes spiders). not really sure on the size or age, she wont stretch out for me.
got told she'd molt because of the bald spot (it's not dark enough to indicate a soon molt in my eyes tho, looks more like she flicked hairs ). and boy does she like to flick{D . i never had a t actually flick hair, and it looks kinda funny. probably wont be funny when she actually gets me with the hair tho:rolleyes:

tho any ideas on ~ size, ~ age, and if i need to change the spoil?

cork tile?

It looks like she's on cork tile? If so, I'd probably rehouse onto 4+ inches of peat or coco fiber like you mentioned. That way, she'll be able to bulldoze and make things just right, and maybe make her more secure and less "hair-kicky"! Also, ditch the under-tank heaters. Not needed. As long as she's room temp (65-80) she'll be just fine. Excellent find. Congrats.

@idahobitything it's not tile, its some kind of supstrate/dirt, but real dry

@hardlucktatoo its part of an old molt/skin.
got told previous owner didn't have time any more. since then i cleaned out the 20 gallon tank, old skin and all.

Your B. smithi

Your T looks very healthy. Perhaps the reason it was so grumpy was that it didn't have the proper substrate to dig around in. I know that some T's are very grumpy when they can't move things around and make the habitat their own. Of course, being in a room full of people might have put it under a bit of stress as well.

I am going to go out on a limb and call that one a girl...just a hunch tho... looks to be good size if my eyes arent tricking me. If it is as big as I think it is you should know in a molt or two. Great looking....

If you still have the old molt you found with it keep it. You can tell the gender by opening up the abdomen of the molt.

well the old molt was is pieces and all tore up. not sure from how long ago it was either, got told she will molt soon, but i think she has a while to go before a next molt. the bald spot is more from flicking hair in opinion and not dark enough for a oncoming molt.

and the price for was just too good to pass up. came with 20 gallon tank, 2 hides and this beauty.
