I just got a pink toe for my son! My husband has cared for tarantulas in the past but he had ones that burrowed. I am terrified my little guy is gonna hurt themselves or worse chew through the mesh! He/or she? (Hasn’t molted yet so I can’t be sure)is still a juvenile. He is hiding in my bedroom until Christmas and I can’t sleep! With all the conflicting info I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Pics below! Any advice will be taken openly
Thank you

If you're feeling crafty you could potentially change the mesh with plexiglass and drill hole vents
If not, change the terrarium
Also Avics seem to be fragile to stagnant air and you should provide cross vents

If you can get our hands on a cheap picture frame, the plastic protective sheet can be cut and then glued to your existing lid.

But your T is not going to have the best time in there, because there are no ventilation holes in the lower section to move air.

Depending on the brand, some people have made 3d printed lid replacements without the mesh... I would check etsy to see what brands you can get for cheap and then buy that brand of tank.

Something with front opening doors should have lower ventilation.

Wire screen - bad for many reasons - search forum. Yes they can chew through it

Extruded metal that looks like screen is safe

Etsy is your go to for lid change

What size is it? I bought a bunch of extra pre-drilled/fitted replacement lids from another exceptionally talented member here, including a couple large sizes I'm unlikely to ever use...if that's one of them, you can have one of my extras

Is that a 12"x12" exo?

If I've got it, I'll PM you, & send it off in either tomorrow or Monday's post

You need a new enclosure...those bugariums lack the proper ventilation needed for avics....top only ventilation is inadequate and will almost certainly cause critical problems in the long term.

There are lots of good acrylic enclosures available that are more suitable for your T, and the prices are reasonable. Search Google for "arboreal tarantula enclosure" and you will see tons of options. I would suggest something that is front opening, as Avics like to build their web tunnels around the top of their enclosures, and make sure there are ventilation holes at the top and bottom of the sides/front/back of the enclosure.

Thanks I'm always curious what people are making out there.
It was another guy here, but I don't recall who off the top of my head. He made me a few, & they fit so well, I asked him to make me a few more to have on hand. I've got at least two of those 12x12's

A good fit is definitely helpful! They work on Exo Nano Tall?

Are those the 8"x8"x8"s? If so, they fit like a glove..most of my stuff is in them. Got the 12"x12" because I plan on putting my larger spiders in them in time.

Thank you! I have been looking and I think this might be my next project for them ❤

Thank you I did see that! I was a little panicked about not treating this animal correctly. I am gonna look for a cross ventilation set up or construct one 😬

Thank you for the offer. I am thinking of changing up the set up for cross vent. So I am gonna have to get a new home for this guy! I have one ordered just waiting for it to come in.

Good call. Couldn't really tell what you had with the thumbnail, there...looked like it was one of the big exos.

That would be @Matt Man
I have a couple of his as well. Excellent quality.

@OP, as already said, you need an enclosure with vent holes at the substrate level to move air through the enclosure. Stagnant air is a death sentence for Avics.

Indeed it was...thanks, man!

Yes, they are designed for the 12 x 12 and 8 x 8 Exos. The Rectangular ones for Creative Habitat 5R and 10R Glass Terrariums to replace the wire lids.
I hopefully will be making prototypes of the Zillas next.
The 12" have 4 pads, the 8 inch 2. The pads make up the distance to the locks and the Acrylic is cut to go around the Exos Molding

Indeed it was...thanks, man!
I think I made 3 more 8x8s for you and you never got back to me. Still in a box, but have been in the back of my truck since then
