I've read every where that as long as the hornworm don't eat the leaves of tomato, tobacco or any avocado they won't be toxic. So I bought 50 eggs and let them all pupae so I can have my own colony. But now that it's winter I didn't even think about how hard it would be to get a tomato plant in winter. So my question is. Will the hornworm lay eggs on anything besides the tomato plant?

Also I planned to put all the babies that hatch on the store bought worm chow but the moths where all raised on peppers and broccoli until they pupated, but I was just reading how the fruit can be toxic so now I'm afraid the moths will lay toxic eggs? What do you guys and gals think?

From what I was told long ago is they are highly adaptable and will eat most leafy greens. But they prefer very fresh, preferably right off a healthy plant,
