Hello, when trying figure out what type of habitat to set up for wild caugt animals it is best to observe the habitat that they come from and attempt to mimic that as best as poss. and you can make small adjustments from there. You can even photograph the area to have an example with you when you are setting up your new enviroment for them
i think this is the best advice i have ever seen for a self wild caught specimen. because you caught it and know where it came from. hope this helps.

If you caught him locally you'd have a San Diego banded gecko (Coleonyx variegatus abbotti). A five gallon tank should be sufficient size wise. I'd recommend avioding sand and other fine granular substrates as these can lead to problems with impaction if they are inadvertently ingested during feeding. I have a Tuscon banded gecko that I've been housing on repti-bark with no problems. Provide a shallow water dish and a warm spot via a UTH with temps in the low to high 90's. These guys will also need a humid hide to retreat to. Without this, they may have difficulty shedding the skin on their toes which can eventually lead to loss of the digits. Mine has a bark slab on the cool side that I regularly mist under. Appropriately sized gut loaded crickets and mealworms will make a good staple food. Insects should be allowed to eat for several hours before being offered to your gecko and placed in a bag a shaken with a calcium and vitamin supplement (I use herptivite and rep-cal) immediately before being offered. Only offer what your gecko can consume in about 15-30 minutes and remove uneaten feeders.

first off let it go! you don't know the species name?!!!!? then you should let it go, study them in nature, learn the name and the habits and then buy a tank, build a naturalistic vivarium and then BUY the gecko...it's a colyonix (sp) and nathan at geckosunlimited has them. most places do...just leave nature to nature hey, especially since you dont' even know it's name!!!
