I have a 6 1/2 ' male Columbian Red Tail Boa, and a 7' Female together in a cage to see if I can get them to mate. They seem to get along good but the male seems protective of the female.I was wondering if that was common in breeding attempts? they just stay coiled up together and when you try to touch the female the male hisses and opens his mouth..any advice on breeding and male aggression would be appreciated.

well, I've seen this type of behavior in a few reptiles, I'd imagine he's just protective of his lassie....

Boas have long courtship periods, how long have they been housed together? What are you using for substrate?

They have only been together for about a week now.. And I just took the substrate out I was using before I took that pic to clean it. I was using wood shavings, like pine bedding, but my boa didnt like it to well so I switched him back to his paper.

First nice pic's pretty boa's..What temps are you keeping them at?

And when was the last time he feed?

Tempeture fluxuation some times can trigger an aggressive reaction in boa's

He ate like 3 weeks ago, hes stubburn, when I got him the guy from the reptile rescue said the family that had him feed him too large rats a week, and the rescue place feed him once a week. But since I have had him he refuses to eat, I have got him to eat once in 2 months. The heat normally stays between 85-90. He only started gettin aggressive once the female got put in there.

Ive had the same thing happen with a 10ft male reticulated python, it seems in breeding season he didnt want anything to do with anything but the ladies and he made sure to everyone he was clear on that:p Ive never kept boas before but it would be my guess he would start eating again after he had his fun with the nice little lady you have gotten for him. Try again to feed after you remove the female, might work a bit better maybe after he has time to cool off a bit.
