Why do people do this

I was looking for snakes on CL and someone is trying to pass this off as an ADULT HOG ISLAND boa....I Googled adult hog island boa not even half this size

That snakes way bigger then 5ft thats what hog island boas top out at unless its mixed with a bci bloodline then they can get the same size as a bci.

After looking a second time it does look like it has some hog island in it thats where the spots come from

I think it might just be a matter of perspective. It's in a 4 foot container and it is curved back on itself but not so much as to think it would double it's length, plus it isn't touching either side so that might interfere with accurate guesstimates as well. Add to all of that the fact that, as most people here will realize, measuring a live animal is tricky at best and I'd say 5 feet probably isn't far off the mark. It's possible it's bigger but then animals don't always conform to what they are supposed to do either. Maybe you should just go look at it in person.

But the whole car isn't visible and bear in mind that a car top isn't all that big these days depending on what kind of car it is. Besides, I doubt taking it out of a 4 foot enclosure and sitting on top of a car will make it change how big it is. That is unless the pictures were taken years apart. I still say look at it in person. There are to many errors to be made guessing size from a photo and anyone saying differently is selling something

I don't see anything in those pics that shows that boa is over 5'.
