thanks all, this beast has now become the favorite of my collection.

now a question:

whenever I mess with it, blow on it, touch it in any way, it whips its tail around and attempts to scratch me with its two last "legs". It got me once and it sure did get my attention. Very interesting.

just curious if any other centipede exhibits this tail whip behavior?

IME, pedes will attempt to grasp the intruder with it's last pair of legs in order to gain leverage so they can whip the head around to deliver a bite!

Yup. They all do it. I have seen them catch crckets with their last legs also. You can also be punctured by their legs too if they hit you hard enough.
