I understand trying to make things as near nature as they can be but Im not going to lie I dont feel compeled to go out of my way to make an amazing cage for a 2" Avic. Most of my smaller Ts are still in vials and very basic set ups tell about 3". If it is one of my full size females thats another story.

For the next week all my females under 5" are in small 2QT containors as I move. They have been in these for the last 2-3 months as I didnt want to make big set ups right before I moved. I will be setting up some nice enclosures in the next month for my ladies but I really dont feel they have suffered being in the smaller containors for the last few months. My thought is that as long as their basic needs are being met (food, water, waste removed, place to hide) they are content. At least as far as I can tell :D

the tarantula will be fine. it's not how fancy or nice the cage is, it's how the tarantula interacts within it.

i personally don't do display cages unless it's something absolutely fantastic. my avic avic girl is in a 1 gallon plastic jar, with 4" of slightly dampened substrate and that works for her, she has made a web and everything.

I personally want people to go 'ooh.. ah' at my tarantula, not the cage.

ps: nice setup. looks pretty good

Agreed. I use a similar method where slings get vials, anything over 1" gets a 2.5" acrylic cube, up to 2-3" get a 4" cube and then they get larger tanks a large plastic shoe boxes - depending on the species.

It's just not practical to build realistic enclosures for all of our specimens, especially when your collection gets very large. I'm at just over 100 spiders now and maintenance is relatively simple with how I have everything set up now. I don't want to even think about how hard it would be to maintain a bunch of habitats for all my critters.

As bliss has mentioned, only the more spectacular specimens are housed in 'show-off' cages.

I like the setup. Only thing I would do is add a small plant and add a little more substrate. Though it is your setup and if you like it then it doesn't matter what we say.
