Actually she found me. I had picked some thing up and she crawled onto my hand. She walked around a bit, rappeled a couple inches down from my finger then sat there staring at me expectantly.
So I bought I little glass terrarium, brought her to my desk and made her a home.
I can’t figure out how to go about identifying a spider this small. I’m guessing my next step would be to get a magnifying glass to take pictures through? Thought I’d see what help I can get and show some of the pictures I have already. She makes webs (and dangles from them) I’m hoping I picked the right forum (true spider?) I’m not very knowledgeable with spiders. I’m in Colorado if that helps.

I don’t think you’re going to get an ID with a spider that small by just taking photos. Maybe analyze the eye arrangement and draw it out?

That makes sense. I’ll have to get a glass even for me to be able to see the eye arrangement. I’ll work on that. Thank you!

A little introspection here, @Trent Who is Spike? A friend. A visitor. A companion. That's enough. You meant -What- is Spike. In the grand scheme of things, 'who' is the more relevant, what is just academic.
Enjoy your time together.

I can only speculate from these images, but some possibilities:
  • Oecobius (wall spider)
  • young Theridiidae (cobweb spider)
  • Linyphiidae (sheetweb or dwarf spider)

Very true. Spike is my friend. We might have a bit of a co-dependent relationship. Or more likely, I’m delusional and she has no idea I exist....
Well spoken sir....
I will probably never know the many facets of her personality. Can even a lifetime together bring complete knowledge and understanding? But I feel that I love her.
I suppose this thread could never be closed and I will have to start a new one.
What the hell is Spike? Is she even female? Is she really eating that little fly I put in there, or does she eat microscopic critters from soil?

Whoa, that’s impressive... I think maybe one of the last two. I’ll try to get some closer looks. I kinda hope it’s the last one. Thank you!
