Thanks JC!

Yeah that just means ArachnoBoards.I don't currently culture them for that reason.I just sorta culture them and in the future will push them to their ultimute limits!

I culture a few varieties, and know of a few other people who do as well.

Hey Caco, about 6 yrs ago my daughter found some woodlice in the mountains that were a mottled grey/brickred color. We separated out the colored ones and eventually they bred until they were bright orange like the spanish orange isopods are. We still get a good mix of grey, mottled and orange in every batch.
If you want some Ill send you a batch.

idk, i think i have at least five *species* in there

maybe 40 or 50

i don't just want to watch them grow and stuff, though that is fun. i want to use these as cleaners in some of my cages and *maybe* as feeders, but i need to do quite a bit more research there, first

i'll post pics in a little bit. just got done doing all my bug chores for the night

okie dokie

you can see at least one of my giant flat guys and some of the other species, too

zoom (almost a meg, though) --> http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b287/cacoseraph/isopoda/Isopods_kindsb.jpg

i'm kinda hoping that the lighter roller is an irido... but i don't remember collecting any that obvious so maybe it just molted. plus, i'd rather keep iridos seperate and just feed them normal isopods as need be

babies! i am hoping one of my giant flats made the babies :D

zoom --> http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b287/cacoseraph/isopoda/Isopods_babiesb.jpg
(note: this pic was made shooting through a single glass magnifying lens. the babies are like 1-2mm long and you can see their freaking EYES!)

I just keep the orange morph ones and the little white tropical ones. I keep them seperately, as well as use them in other enclosures as cleanup crews.

dang you and your short names caco, what is an 'irido'?
i love the short names! especially if they rhyme or are alliterative =P

iridos are isopods who have an iridovirus. at least some strains are fatal... but the isopod achieves beautiful colors before it flames out. samurai styles!

i just feed my veggies and junk. i bring bits of wood and oak and other leaf duff to give them, too. dead bugs, also

I FOUND AN ORANGE ONE TODAY! i think i winged it when i caught it... ooh, and possibly put a predator in the same vial. guess i should go check it out and take a picture or two, eh?

Well thankfully my googling told me of the virus but wasnt one hundred precent sure, quite nifty little viral infection..

Btw Caco, when you can you should take a trip to europe some of the bugs here are quite stunning in their own rights, The isopods I caught the other day (pillbugs not pillmillipedes) are huge, and have nice markings, I'm going for a hike in the next few days with good weather should come back with some pics.

not to get off topic however:

I find isopods make great t tank cleaners mostly they fed primarly on cricket scrap, and various tidbits in the soil, especialy if I had a potted plant or some mossy wood in there.
