About a month ago, I purchased a Chaco at an expo really cheap, so I am sure she was wild caught. I noticed today that she has a white spot on her abdomen.....could she be in pre-molt or does this look like something I should worry about?

I am fairly new to Ts, and this is my first "wild caught" so I just want to be sure of what I have and that my Carmela is healthy :)

***closer look at spot in my reply below

Well.. Firstly. I'm not against buying wildcaught t's but they do come with a hidden warning. Firstly. It being wildcaught you dont know if it has mites or internal parasites. You have to keep an eye out for 'em. Wildcaught t's and expose are usually stupid cheap. The ones I get usually molt after the first week or 2 of getting thim so it may wery well molt soon but it is rather large. You never know..

Anyways. For your question. It looks like 1 of 2 things...
1 = fungus
2 = poop.

My Grammostola pulchra has had a white spot since it's last molt. I don't think it's anything to worry about.

I'm not 100% that it is wild caught, this species isn't that uncommon and grows quite rapidly when kept warm and overly fed.

As for the spot, a much more clear picture would help. If you've only have a point and shoot or cellphone camera, increasing the light on the animal might help get a more clear picture.

I do agree that is probably nothing of concern, and she just might need to molt to clear whatever it is off.

My G pulchra did the same thing in one of it's molts. What it looked like to me is that some of the new hair stuck to the old molt when coming out. It's nothing to worry about and by the next molt it healed up fine. I wouldn't be to worried

Thank you very much, this makes me feel better. I will stop worrying ... I had heard that buying wild caught was risky...and I have been watching her. She was just so big and beautiful and cheap that I couldn't walk away with out buying her :)
