Which snake

Hey everybody,

My wife would like to have, at some point, an albino color morph snake, which must be relatively peaceful, and get no more than approximately 6 feet long. Any suggestions?

I'm thinking small pythons, boas. I'm not sure where any of the breeds fall as far as adult length.

Why not a corn? You can get albino morphs for fairly cheap, and they pretty much fit the description you gave as far as temperament and size.

I've suggested that, actually. :) I'm wondering whether there are any other ideas. I'm certain there are a number of snakes that fit that description.

There are many colubrids which are available in albino morphs, which typically don't excede six feet in lenth. Some that readily come to mind are Corns, California Kings, Brooks Kings, and San Diego Gophers. When you're talking albino boas and pythons, though, you're talking quadruple-digit prices and HIGHER, and that is BEFORE the decimal point! With the exception of albino Burmese pythons, which DEFINATELY excede six feet, albino boas and pythons are usually very pricey, and I am not sure if you are planning on spending that much for a snake.

I vote Cal King. Like the previous poster said, boas and pythons are just far too expensive (or large) to really bother with. Unless you have tons of money to blow.

Albino rosy boas are beautiful and don't exceed 3.5'. Plus they won't break your bank like most albino boids.

You can get albino Kenyan sand boas for pretty cheap. They stay small enough to be kept in a 10 gallon if you're really cramped for space. They can get a little nippy sometimes, and some are fussy eaters. They're fun if you have a little patience, though.

Albino corns are very nice. I personally don't like standard red amels though.

Albino rosy boas are beautiful, especially the lavendar morph!

Albino prairie kings are quite beautiful as well, and very very cheap.

Albino milksnakes are absolutely gorgeous, but they are more expensive. The Nelson's albino is out of this world.

my vote (as always!) is for the rosy boas...
I LOVE the albinos, and like Mike said, they are not nearly as expensive as other snakes either. That will probably be my next snake purchase....

I've never seen a rosy boa before. (thanks guys) Cute little snakes :)

Yes, albino ball pythons, for instance, appear to be multiple thousands. I don't know what the budget is for this -- depends on how much she really wants one, I guess ;)

I've suggested albino corn snakes. Those are inepensive, and some are absolutely striking. Not sure whether she's interested in something like that or not at the moment. I'll also suggest the prairie king.

I absolutely love milksnakes. I see them as having a similar (very stunning) color pattern to the coral snake, while being somewhat less hot. ;) The albinos are great looking, and I've also suggested that one to her.

An albino bullsnake would fit the bill perfectly. Much larger than a corn (and more beautiful, IMO) and with a more interesting personality. Most adults top out at around 6' -7' with an occasional one exceeding 8' (some variation is due to which bloodline you have). I've got a 5', 4 year old male who's one of my favorite snakes. He's never attempted to bite, a SUPER aggressive feeder (thinks thawed mice are alive, apparently) and has a personality that varies by the day (sometimes hisses, but is a total wuss at heart).

how about an albino hognose? don't know the pricing on that but they are pretty cool looking. Worth looking into. ball pythons are in the $5000 range i believe...boas in the $2000 range.
