hello all, ok well ive been doing some research on roaches for feeders again. i already have a very nice colony of dubia, but wanting something that doesnt burrow or freeze up, and is the same to a tad smaller in size. so im wondering which do you guys belive is better? b. discoids, or b. lateralis?...also want ones that dont climb or fly. and couldnt really find out if discoids can fly or not. and ive heard they stink but which is worse? and of the 2 which is easier to keep....or should i just get both?

Well i say get both just because it would help you give your Ts a variety of food, but if you have to choose one i'd go with the b. lateralis. They're really active and great breeders. Just my opinion.

Well its not really hard to take care of them. Just make sure the humidity is high and keep them warm.

my arboreals love the latteralis because they climb up the cork bark, and my discoids always burrow especially the nimphs.

Well mine smell but not as bad as crickets. I don't use substrate, it just makes cleaning harder. Also i don't know about the heat tape/rope because i use heating pads so sorry can't help with that one.

Why don't you try the Eublaberus prosticus?

They don't climb and fly

but they burrow.

Lateralis are one of my all time favorite feeders (I use lats, lobsters, and dubias). They dont burrow, they cant climb glass (but will readily scurry up corkbark for your arboreal Ts or reptiles), and they get about cricket sized. It's super easy to tell adult males from females, as the males are tan with wings and the females are black and wingless. as for their care, I have a colony of about 500 in a 10 gallon tank with eggflats on end with one covering the top of the ones that are stood up. feed them carrots and water gel, and keep them warm.

When you say warm, how warm? I have a colony that finally matured. I have tons of females. I haven't noticed any breeding as of yet, but they did just mature.

As far as which I would go with. I have both species of dubia and lats. Like stated above the lats are great for the guys that dont like to eat the dubia and aboreals.
