Hello! Does anyone know any places in Orange County that I can LEGALLY hunt for scorpions and is OPEN and has an OPEN parking lot?

I would prefer rock flipping instead of black-lighting.

It can be a trail or anywhere random that is LEGAL to find them.

Thank you!

As in legal, do you mean not on private property?

Weird. Wasn’t aware California had laws like that.
Yea for example the wilderness ranch park/ red rock canyon place in foothill ranch and peters canyon has rules where you aren't allowed to collect/disturb anything.

I remember CA had proposed rule changes on scientific collection permits, educational collection and propagation of insects, am unsure if they passed it and or if it included arachnids.

Aside from the state regs, Federal parks and atate parks wildlife management areas etc... many counties and municipalities also have regs that may be amiguous enough to cover collecting. So it is best to research those codes, rules and regs.

It does. I’ve been to many parks and you cannot take CA wildlife. Raping nature no bueno.

In FL and other states, foreign invaders “please take or eradicate”

Makes sense. It’s kinda like the concept of if I just take one it’s not going to harm anything. But in reality it’s never just one person, but hundreds. That’s where it becomes the problem. As far as I’m aware (keep in mind I haven’t done extensive research) there aren’t many laws or regulations like that here in Oregon.

I was at one herp show in 2018. A single vendor had a table with at least 100 AF A. chalcodes, then same show other vendors with about as many AFs.

Such numbers only possible by raping nature.

Wide scale WC collecting year after year is really damaging.

I am not American but I did go to UC Irvine for 2 years as exchange student. Best places I went was up in the valley near Darwin/Panamint and also in the hills near San Luis obispo. Legality I don't know, but Panamint is literally a ghost town so no one will bother you either way. Just be careful not to fall in a mine shaft.

I have also seen some good stuff near the campus of Cal poly Pomona, but it's more populated area and I think mostly private property.

No one ever said anything to me except at the beach, if u try to take stuff from there they get upset but other than that I didn't have problem.

I agree. I don’t collect myself as I don’t see a need.

I'm not familiar with California laws but I know in Oregon I used to catch and release Uroctonus mordax and the game wardens didn't care

Their prices are VERY high for MOST of the species. 75$ for a 1/2 versi--- that's a crime! The price for P rufi also a crime!

I agree. Not for everyone!

But breeding Aphanopelma just to put most the sac back into the wild is a great cause. And personally if it costs a couple extra dollars to support said cause, im all for it.

They've even been the first hobbyists to be able to breed certain species of Aphanopelma in captivity.
