Whenever im going down into nature for some invert photography session i always keep an eye for Opiliones, but i never have a chance to spot one.
Where is the best place to look for them? I don't plan on collecting them, just taking photos and leaving them alone.
Thanks!

I tend to find different species on different things. Normal harvestmen i usually just find on plant leaves while vonones sp i usually find under logs.

If you find a pile of sand, they love that. If you find a pile of leafs, they love that. If you find a pile of dead squirrels, they probably love that too. However it’s hard to spot them just by looking, you have to move around the leafs and stuff in order to see them.

They are all over my house and my yard is crawling with them at night, they eat the dead bugs from the lights at night.

I just assumed they were everywhere but maybe it's just like that where I'm at. Good luck with your hunt. I'm sure you'll find some.

you can always leave a few potted plants/wood piles under a porch light outside in a few weeks or so something should have moved in

There are 6500+ species of opiliones present on every continent except for Antarctica, and the person asking is in Serbia while everyone who has answered is from North America, ha ha.

@vicareux, you should probably research what species are in your particular area and learn their preferred habitat (these two articles might help get you started). For myself, I consistently found opiliones in California and Colorado in cool microclimates where they can splay their legs out fully (under bark and stones), or I found them just wandering around as the sun went down, while in Alabama I only saw an opilione on a wall below a light, where it sat waiting for flying insects to come within reach. As others have said, they have found certain species only in certain environments, so the best thing is to learn what is in your area and what habitats are preferred by those species. From there you can then properly search for them.

Thanks,

Honestly i knew very little about opiliones, therefore it's a new knowledge to me that they're so diverse in their habitat choices and ways of living.
Whenever i would see opiliones in my country, that would be in a hilly/forested area, and sadly there are only plains and steppes are around me.
I'll try to look around for some info about local species, however it's somewhat scarce. Thank you though!
