I have all these b. lateralis and need egg crates. Been searching online and the price isn't so bad, but the shipping is a lot. Where do you guys get yours?

I heard some people just go to a fast food place that serves breakfast (like McDonalds) and asks to have the empty ones and they get them for free :)

Check out any local bakeries/diners and the like. I get mine for free from a Coco's across the street from where I live. Last time I asked they gave me a 5' stack of 'em!

Thanks, I know what I will be doing tomorrow. Cheap is good, free is even better! I'm going to try and clean out my roach enclosure tomorrow. Lordy, I will have nightmares of roaches running everywhere. I heard that lateralis survive freely in Arizona. Kind of worries me some....

This literally happens to me anytime I spend more than a couple hours with any bugs; crazy nightmares. This last week I dreamt that I couldn't move around while I was in my bed because if I did, I'd squash my newly purchased slings-which I suppose I thought I was sleeping with=weird. Needless to say, I woke up fairly stiff.

I assume your bug dreams don't get that strange. :p

As far as egg crates are concerned, I've heard that you can easily go to Walmart or Costco and ask them for what they have. I'd call first so they can set them aside for you. I've had to do similar things with moving boxes in the past.

I also use the fruit crates, more common for apple packing. You know... the bluish board with large dimples. I found they work better with B lats since the egg sacs don't get stuck to the boards as much. And you can get those free from your local supermarkets.

Someone mentioned that they may contain some pesticide residue. I just let mine sit for a couple of months before I use them, no problem so far...

You could do what I do and build a roach apartment (different from a roach motel as they often check out to be shipped =D ). Take a few planks of flat scrap wood, you can usually find it around demolition sites for free, a hand saw, some screws and washers (you can also use hot glue though for thicker wood it's not as stable), and drills holes in four corers (or simply glue), the arrange your planks of wood as such: [||||||] keeping each plank at about half an inch apart. This wood roach apartment will be washable, and reusable, and you'll never need card board egg crates again.
