while I no longer keep companion or breeding parrots in my personal live, I have worked with between 7500 and 10000 parrots, including hand feeding 5000 to 6000 parrot chicks from a few hours old thru weaning. i still work with birds in my work life on a daily basis, and occasionally consult as an avian behaviorist and groomer. I am definitely what youd consider a hardcore parrot guy, I just lack the will to keep them at home anymore, although i will conceed that im considering adding a companion parrot to my life once again. I limit my choices (and they vary quite a lot) to either a simple budgie, a green cheeked conure, double yellow amazon or a congo grey, the last 2 being the least likely. Either way whatever i go with i will finish off the hand feeding myself. A hand raised english budgie is an absolute delight of a companion parrot, and quite the talkers. im always up for some parrot chat!

I have a lovebird. While I would someday love to own a larger parrot, right now she is more than enough bird for me! Talk about big attitude in a little package!

Although bugs and reptiles are a hobby of mine, my birds are my best friends. My first bird was a budgie I named that I got in 2008. My bearded dragon passed away of old age and things were just really quiet in my room after he was gone. I was reluctant to get a new pet at first, but someone suggested I buy a budgie that were on sale one weekend. I bought one, named him Jupiter and he's been my best friend ever since. Although he perches on my shoulder, eats breakfast with me and talks a lot, Jupiter is the most aggressive pet I own haha. Friends, family, other animals cannot enter my room by themselves without him dive bombing them until they leave. He's pint sized, but extremely territorial lol. He only loves me and my cockatiel.

My cockatiel Aries is the opposite, he LOVES people and hates most other birds and animals. Instead of whistling, he tries to mimic human speech all the time, his favorite phrase is "Hey, what are you doing?"

Unfortunately, most of my friends are afraid of Aries lol, because every time someone comes over, Aries wants to either fly on their shoulder or tries to casually walk up their leg or arm. My friends fear both my birds more than my snakes, tarantulas and scorpions...

This my baby girl lol. Her name is Jacko and she is a Psittacus erithacus timneh :p (Timneh African Grey). She's approximately 14 years old and we've been together nine of those years. I don't know much about her except that she lived with some drug addicts for most of that time and ended up on my doorstep in an old beer case.

She's a pretty quirky old buzzard but I love her dearly. She's come a long way since when we first met (she was phobic, terrified of hands and didn't know how to play...she also had terrible eating habits and liked steak and coffee or iced tea). She's got some medical issues (atherosclerosis and scarring in her lungs) and tends to be illness prone both due to her previous living environments but she's an absolute riot. She loves me and is (uncharacteristically for a grey) very cuddly and affectionate. She is quiet so long as she's occupied and doesn't speak much...she prefers to bark and meow (annd the smoke alarm to punish me lol).
She's ok with strangers but *HATES* small kids, dogs, cats, small mammals, other birds...pretty much anything non-human.
The only upside to her previous home however is she has always been willing to try any kind of food I offer. Non-dairy yogurt, bananas and eggs/chicken are favourites.
