When to find death freighing beetles?

I found 3 diabolical ironclad beetles at 4:30 at night a couple days ago. I went to the same spot about the same time the next day and only found a mad stink beetle. Is there a best time to find them or do they just wander and hide when they feel like it?

Probably night. Try different times throughout the day and night until you have success and go from there.

Is there a specific time of year to find them because I have been looking same place and still no luck?

I've found them under boards at all times of day. They come out towards evening, and seem to be somewhat active, or at least can be found, at all times of year (though spring/summer is when they are most active). This is from experience with the Californian locales.

I've found about a dozen on the past couple of weeks. On the warmer days we go looking right when the sun goes down. I'm in the Inland Empire.

Yes. I tried all the tips everyone gave me and I now got 9 and am still finding more.
