Hi,

My T. Vagans is a female and I would like to know if she is ready to be bred. I searched online and I don't believe what I red, it says about 7 to 8 yrs, seems too late for her. She looks ready and mature but I would like to ask more signs if I can let her try to breed?

Hi there,

Best way to tell would be to inspect the most recent molt. Spermatheca will sclerotise (harden and appear noticeably darker) once mature.

hard to say exactly, age isn't the best indocator as some spiders can mature in about a quarter of the time

There are reports of individuals that reached sexual maturity in under 3 years even if the majority will take much longer

how big is it?

beautiful spider you got there
seems potentially big enough to try, many spiders mature sooner than expected. that said one or two molts and she will be mature for certain. It would be a shame to get a male only to be disappointed when she is not interested.

personally i would wait a bit, smaller females have smaller sacks, if it works at all, and have you considered what to do with all the babies? not sure about asia but here in europe these are very common and hard to sell. She has lots of years ahead of her and you could probably wait another decade to enjoy keeping her before you breed her.

I purchased my vagans at 1 inch on 3/3/2020. I would say she was ready to be paired in 2022 at 5 inches dls. 2023 she molted and was 6 inches dls which she currently still is.

This species of Tliltocatl is too abundant in the U.S. to bother breeding. Not to mention they are established in the wild now in Florida. Phillipines might have a market for them but I have no clue on that
