She's an H lividum so I don't exactly want to knock on her (closed) burrow door and say, "Hey there M' Lady, can I just have a look see at your babies?? And here's another thing. I hadn't expected her to even drop one being that she hasn't had a date since she molted and my MM passed last year. What's up and what can I do about it?

thanks

Normally you pull the sac about 30 days in or so. However, if your MF has molted then that's going to be a dud sac.

Well, yeah, I kinda knew that.

Was hoping for some experienced input as far as how to get the sac away from an H lividum burrowed down 8 inches and tunneled back into the tank.

Has anyone taken a sac from a MF H livid before? She is guarding it well, tucked right up close to her. It's been about three weeks and I don't notice any active mite infestation though I know they can feast on a bad sac.

just wondering can u leave a sack with the female at all times?
Sure. I don't pull viable sacs from my breeding females. Last one was my MF OBT. She was a fantastic mom. Fed them well, brought live crix down to them and sealed up

She let them come out at 2nd instar and then gathered them together and sealed up again. It was only then I opened up the borrow and separated them. All 142 of them.

 I do not envy your task!

The scariest thing I have done in my life was an H. Lividum tank change!
I wouldn't want to do anything to provoke her especially if she's on guard and taking an already aggressive stance..

What's the big deal about pulling the sac if you know it's going to be a dud?

Awh that would be so cute/awesome to experience i think ill have to try breeding mine sometime id love to see.

Actually i havent really noticed much crazyness from my Lividum i guess im lucky if u accidently touch her though she freaks but more or less just wants to run away. As for my obt i got just recently i have not seen any threat displays yet just ran to its log hehe.

I'd say let her keep it. She may just eat it anyway. Trying to get it from her is just going to stress her out and destroy her burrow.

yeah well personally id get it out...but only because it is a dud.....if the sac isnt eaten, it may start to rot and attrack mites....which is very bad....id just dig her up cup her and nab the sac....in the mean time look at it as an opprotunity to do some cleaning....h. lividiums are that bad from my experience.

Thanks! Great idea. Interesting, I had been planning on giving her tank a cleaning, it's overdue. It'll be a two for one. I'll wait a week until she senses they eggs are due and then will nab and clean. I'll photo the sac and it's contents and give everyone a look see. Maybe even video the whole shebang.

Also thanks to nrokin too, this MF of my two, is the more gentle and laid back. Should be fine now that I'm reminded not to go in with fear vibes. {D

Aww, whatever do you mean? I absolutley adore my glorious pet hole.

Interesting to know the eggsac could be potentially eaten. Would it hold any nutrient? I guess removing it could be a good move preventative, cause if she leaves it down in her burrow you may never know if she's eaten it or not!

Let us know how it goes, and good luck! I wouldn't want to coax my girl out of her burrow and then try to put her into a small container! May the spider gods be with you.
