Wheelbug nymph, back porch

Caught it on a porch table, it never quit eating that little beetle while I was catching it.

Hate to say it but I dont think that is actually a wheelbug. Just an assassin. A very cool one, but still, not a wheelbug.

Its a wheel bug alright

Hmm, I was under the impression that even as nymphs they had the 'spokes'? At least the one I found last year in Texas did. Eh, whatever.

I found this guy on Assateague Island, MD last summer, out of all the inverts I came across there, this is my favourite. I've come to the conclusion that if a rhinoceros were an insect, it would be a wheel bug.

We have bugs in the same family but they're neither so large nor so spectacularly patterned as the ones in pictures here. I'm jealous!
